Yesterday, the Kevo app experienced a "service degradation" according to an email from Kwikset. It was nowhere near a degradation, it was a total fail. The app would load and immediately crash. This was the first, hopefully only, time in over a year that Ive had the lock, but it meant I could not lock/unlock my door, basically the only thing it does of importance to me. The website FAQ says an Internet connection is not needed to lock/unlock the door, but that appears to be untrue. A door lock mechanism cannot fail, not even once, and if the phone and lock set are working well (they were) there should never be an inability to perform the most basic design function.
This apparently means less to the mfr. than to me, given their response. This coupled with the many and real problems noted by others, renders this a weak solution to a non-problem (lock/unlock a door). "IoT" = a lot less than meets the eye.
